I am a 27 year old african american female and weigh 190. I so want to become a plus size model. Anyone know of any modeling agencies in New York, NY that work with plus size females?
well first off, being plus-size has many requirements; you cant just be a larger girl. first off, plus-size models must be at least 5′9, and have very long legs, measurements within 10 inches of each other (meaning hips and bust should be within an inch of each other, and waist 10 inches less in inches), plus be a size 12-14. there are agencies in new york that sign plus-size girls, but they will not even glance at your submission if you dont have the height, the measurements AND a super strong face. a lot of women think that because plus size girls arent stick thin, they can be any shape, height or weight- unfortunately thats not at all true. plus has even more restrictions than straight modeling, believe it or not. ford, wilhelmina and elite all sign size 12-14, but they state on their website that if you are under 5′9 or larger than a certain size, you need not apply. also, your age will be an issue; girls who start modeling are typically in their teens, and plus-size begin a little later, but definitely not late 20’s; most plus girls start at 19 or 20.
