BD is right -The “round style” Abu 6000 will hold more line and is designed toward “heavier” fish but is NOT directly designed only for live bait fishing.
Many people use round style reels for casting lures, trolling, AND live bait fishing, (esp in saltwater).
Major differences between round and low-profile?
1. You can spend less money on a round style reel and get something that (with proper care) will last a LONG time. Whereas, a “cheap” (under $60-$70) low-profile reel generally won’t be as durable or versatile.
2. Versatility- Most RS baitcasters in the $90-$100 range can easily move from saltwater to freshwater, trolling and casting lures . On the other hand, Low-profile reels in that same price range will eventually have issues with durability, (esp in saltwater), and they are not very useful as a trolling reel.
3. Comfort- Low-profile reels can be more comfortable depending on the size of your hands. If you have smaller hands a LP reel will probably be better for you.
In my opinion, if your looking for a durable, big fish, “compromise” reel that can do a variety of tasks go with a RS reel.
If you are strictly a freshwater fisherman(Bass, Pike) that never trolls or ventures into saltwater I’d look hard at a LP reel.
