what type of boat anchor do i need?
i have a 14 ft boat that i fish around the cabrillo beach bay here in Los Angeles but the wind and waves keep moving my boat. I like fishing for lobster and crab, but the current seems to move me a few feet every few minutes. What type of anchor do I need to keep my boat in place? Thanks!

The common mushroom anchor of 15lbs will hold well in sandy and mud bottoms. Where most problems occur with anchors is there isn’t enough rope played out to allow the anchor to dig in. A short rope will virtually keep the anchor standing upright instead of allowing it to dig in with a longer rope.
For best results when setting anchors, use two anchors. Drop one off the bow and allow the boat to move backward playing out plenty of rope then stop and throw the stern anchor out as far as you can away from the back and allow it to settle leaving several feet of slack rope and tie it off. Then move back to the bow rope and pull it until you feel the back anchor tighten and tie off the bow rope which will center the boat between both anchors. This will almost stop all movement of the boat which is especially helpful when bottom fishing.
