Coated Stainless
How can you identify stainless steel hardware (like nuts and bolts) vs. zinc coated?
I can tell galvanized due to the dull silver/gray coating, but to my eye, zinc coated and SS look the same. I try to keep my SS nuts/screws/bolts apart, but I know I’m not always successful (and when confused, EVERYTHING is assumed to be SS and they all go into the MISC nuts and bolts bin).
Stainless steel is usually weakly magnetic, while the zinc coated steel will be highly magnetic.
