How can I figure out how many gallons of water my fish pond holds.?
I was given a fish pond, and I am having trouble with algea. I am afraid of pouring to much algeacide in it. Any ideas. I have the stringy algea, and the kind that sticks to the side. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Measure the dimensions of your pond in inches. These are the Length, the Width, and the Depth (of the water you are going to put in, not the height of the pond). Got it?
Example:
Length = 10 feet, Width = 6 feet, Depth = 4 feet
First, convert all dimensions into inches, (1 feet=12 inches)
So, Length = 10 x 12 = 120 inches
Width = 6 x 12 = 72 inches
Depth = 4 x 12 = 48 inches
Next, Length x Width x Depth divided by 231 = gallons
120 x 72 x 48 = 414,720
414,720 divided by 231 = 1,795 GALLONS
There are 231 cu. in. in a gallon. This only works if you have a square or rectangular pond, not if you have an odd-shaped or oval pond.
