Is saltwater fishing better right after a storm?
I’m in Maine right now fishing for mackerel, but Tropical Storm Danny just hit, and I was wondering if it would be better to fish right after the storm. Is it usually better fishing right after a storm, particularly saltwater? If so, please let me know why
It can be. Just like any other time, there are always other factors that can effect it as well.
I am up here in Maine right now as well watching a show about tsunami’s instead of fishing for stripers. The rain isn’t so bad, but the wind is blowing it sideways. I will be toughing it out again in a bit once I dry and thaw out a bit. Right now the storm has most of the beaches in walking distance clogged with sea weed and the jetties are a little too dangerous. Frustrating because even now I can see a lot of bird activity on the ocean from my window. The tide turns in about an hour and a half, I am heading back out then, hopefully it starts to pull the sea weed back out.
I will be throwing fresh clams tomorrow for the stripers. Rough storms churn things up and clams have a tendency to smash against rocks. Hopefully the stripers will be in to clean those up in the surf.
