Flashback Hares
Trying to identify an early 90s Brit film…?
…about a girl in 17th or 18th century west country england, born with a hare lip and shunned and mistreated by the inhabitants of her village. She has an unspoken romance with the young blacksmith (or miller?) who goes to London on an apprenticeship, but while he is away she is blamed for the tragic deaths of her family, accused of witchcraft, and taken to the river to be drowned. In the climax of the film she is drowning and having flashbacks to earlier scenes, which is intercut with a man riding through the river in slow motion – it’s the blacksmith returned, who drives off the crazed villagers and saves the day. The end, pretty much. I know it’s not much to go on but if anyone recognizes the film please let me know!
Well done Drama Queen, that’s all I need to find it on http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098117/ – it was called “Precious Bane” written by Mary Webb. Full marks! No release sadly – it was BBC made for TV – but at least I can watch out for it now. Thanks a lot!
It starred Janet McTear. It was fabulous, and no matter how much I try I just can not remember the title. Please, someone help, its now driving me crazy too
