Slip Bobbering Walleye Fishing Secrets
Slip bobbers can be very useful when it comes to Walleye fishing, but there are some things to keep in mind so you can use them effectively.
Walleye are well known for suspending in the water, a lot of the time right below the
thermocline, and slip bobbers can help you suspend your bait at the right level to catch their attention if they are used correctly.
If the bottom is not showing any Walleye, they are probably suspended and a slip bobber can be used to increase your success.
Suspended Walleye does not always mean active or feeding Walleye, and some that are suspended may just float.
Even fish that are feeding and active while suspended may only bite if the bait is attractive enough.
The body of water you are fishing may have a lot of suspended fish or it may be just a few. Other conditions can also have an effect on whether the Walleye are suspended or not.
These include the type of forage the fish are looking for, and if cold water fish become the food source the Walleye will suspend to catch the fish.
Large water basins and water that has stratified layers can also contribute to suspended Walleye.
Understanding when and why the Walleye suspend can help you use slip bobbers more effectively, because you will know when to use them and how to make them work better for you.
If you suspect that the Walleye are suspended, it may take a few attempts to determine what depth they are hanging at.
This will allow you to set the slip bobbers at the optimum depth, so your bait is best situated to catch the attention of the fish.
If you have electronics that can determine what depth the fish are in the area, you will have an advantage.
This can tell you what depth you should set the bobbers at so that the fish are attracted by the bait.
Slip bobbering for walleye can be a devastatingly effective tactic.
Without a fish finder or depth finder, you can set the slip bobber at the depth you think is right, and then adjust the bobber as needed.
Slip bobbers can make your Walleye fishing much better. Sometimes the trophy Walleye are the ones which are suspended for any number of reasons, and understanding when and how to use a slip bobber can really increase the size and
number of the Walleye you will catch.
Slip bobbers can be an extremely effective tool in the arsenal of any Walleye angler, and can get better results than other methods when the Walleye are suspended.
