Why do people who gossip about me not understand why I don’t like them?

I work with a couple of people who spend all day in a non-stop gossip frenzy. This includes gossip about me. I don’t gossip about them, because I believe that there is nothing productive about it.

As soon as I walk out of their cube, I hear them whispering and bad-mouthing me. So, whenever I see them in the hallway or the cafeteria or elsewhere, I just give them the cold shoulder and keep walking. Then later in the day, they are on my IM saying, “Why are you being rude to us?”.

Some will say that I should “take the high road”, and be friendly to them whenever I see them throughout the day. I disagree, because I don’t know why I should give them more gossip fuel.

Either they are incredibly two-faced and see no harm in their drama and backstabbing, or they really are too dumb to recognize how shallow and immature they are.

What are your thoughts?

If they ask, tell them “You were expecting something different? You’re both immature, and i’m sick of showing any respect to someone who acts like they’re 14 years old. Don’t bother even talking to me ” You don’t need to take that crap, they can see that you won’t stick up for yourself. That way they know they can get away with it. Put them in their place a little, without having to use curse words. =) Hope this helps you.
