How do I use a topwater lure?
How do I use a topwater lure like a frog? What are some simple ones to use, that I basically just have to reel in and it has its own action?
A jitter bug is made by the same company as the hula popper but the jitter bug has it’s own action. Remember to pause once in a wile though. Often they will just follow on a steady retreive but a pause will entice a strike. Also try casting it way out and let it sit there a minute or two before reeling in. I think the big splash sometimes scares fish away. Letting it sit before starting to reel in allows fish to be close without being spooked by the lure falling from the sky. I’ll let it sit five or ten minutes even. Jitter bug has a frog pattern and many others. I’ve had many but my favorite is yellow with black spots. Another good one is called a “Tiny Torpedo” it has a small propeller that spins. It is good but not as good as a jitter bug. Jitter bug and Hula popper are both made by Fred Abogast.
