How to clean rubber gasket in front-loading washer?
I have a front-loading washing machine that’s 3 years old, and it has developed mold and stains on the rubber gasket that seals the door. The gasket also has a groove in it that collects dirty water, and that’s moldy, too. Is there a way to clean it that won’t harm the rubber?
I have the Whirlpool Duet Front Loader and it accumulates mold in the front gasket. I called Whirlpool to complain especially since these washers are very expensive. They said to purchase a product at Lowes (which I have not done yet), I believe they are called Refresh sheets. I told them they need to develop a microbial rubber for their gaskets! The key is that you need to wipe the gasket dry each time you are finished with your laundry for the day. It is a pain, but it is the only true way to maintain an handle on the problem otherwise, the mold stain becomes embedded in the rubber. I always leave the door open, too. Have you tried pulling back the gasket with both hands and looking underneath? It is gross. Bleach is the only way to kill mold, but I feel that it will deteriorate the rubber.
