What is the difference between regular ewg hooks and superline ewg hooks?
The strength of the steel used is different. The superline hooks are tempered differently so that they can take the stress/strain braids put on a hook.
Basically, since braids have “no” stretch, there is no cushion in the transfer of energy from the rod to the hook. So, as you pull back on a hookset or a snag etc. when using braid, there’s a relative immediate transfer of power straight to the hook. If the hook isn’t strong enough, it would actually just snap at its flexing point. These hooks are made to withstand a higher amount of force.
(When using mono, or a shock leader, I do NOT recommend using these hooks. They tend to be thicker than their “regular” counterparts. The thickness of the superline hooks makes penetration on hooksets harder. The finer gauge wire of the regular hooks penetrate MUCH easier.)
