Glx Fly

Which G Loomis fly rod is better?
I will soon be starting my winter project of building a fly rod, but I am up in the air about which graphite to use. Just looking for some input from someone about if I will get much more Performance for the extra $50 the GLX costs. Thanks!
My mistake, I meant the IMX, not the GLX. I wholeheartedly agree that if I was to spend the money for a GLX, I would be taking a hard look at a Sage
There are other rod manufacturers that will give you EVEN more rod for your money. Once you get in to the GLX range, you should be looking at Beulah, Gatti, and Sage blanks.
GLX is nice material, but it’s light and susceptible to cracking/breakage. I have two GLX steelhead rods that I love, but am almost too afraid to use them – I don’t want to have to replace them if something happens to them. They’re fly blanks that I built into spinning rods, consequently voiding the warranty…so I better be careful.
Anyway, if you’re even thinking about getting a rod in that price range, then you need to look at other brands because there are better, equivalent, options out there.
EDIT – OH. IMX…that’s a little different.
Just to give you a comparison, between rod materials – (listed in million modulus)
GLX/SGIV (Sage graphite 4) – 65
IMX/(GL4)/SGIII – mid 50’s
GL3/SGII – mid 40’s
GL2 – upper/mid 30’s
The higher end graphite rods are going to be a VERY different feel than even the IMX. I would SERIOUSLY consider looking aroung at other manufacturers before you committ to IMX. Personally, from my comparatively limited knowledge, IMX rods are not typically worth the money. You sacrifice a lot of rod to get the Loomis name, when you could be getting more rod, for the same price with other companies.

G loomis Classic Spin Jig Fishing Rod SJR783 GlX $375.00 A real bass fisherman never, but never, admitted using a spinning rod, unless it was for panfish, and even then it was iffy. But times are CHANGING and so are techniques. First out of the closet were the die-hard smallmouth anglers. They favored the spinning rod because they used lighter line and smaller lures to fool those super cautious brown bass. Then, as finesse fishing came into play, more a… |
