Medium Light
Has anyone here had any success dyeing their hair from medium brown to light brown at home?
I usually darken my hair at home and have never had any problems, but I’m a bit nervous to lighten it. I want to go back to my natural color (dark beige blonde/light ash brown) from my current color, which is a medium mahogany brown. If you have had any success lightening your hair from a dark/medium brown to a light brown with a kit, please let me know what brand/shade. Thanks!
the fact that your hair is dyed darker, is going to make it harder. it’s not as simple as just dying it back with a store bought kit. store bought hair dye comes with 20 volume peroxide. if you dye your hair a darker color, dying over that dyed color with a lighter color will not work. 20 volume peroxide isn’t strong enough to lift it. you will need to use a hair dye with higher peroxide. it’s kinda what people with naturally darker hair that want hair much lighter without bleaching. my hair is naturally medium brown and i dye it medium blonde. this would be impossible with typical hair dye because it’s only 20 volume peroxide. 20 volume can only lift natural color 2 levels and sadly, it doesn’t affect dyed darker hair. this is what i do: i buy medium ash blonde hair from the store, then i go to sally beauty and i get a bottle of 30 volume peroxide and a bottle of 40 volume peroxide. i substitute the 20 for 30 mixed with 40 in the developer bottle and it lightens my naturally dark hair to medium blonde – 3 levels lighter than my color. since your hair is dyed, it might be a little harder though. you should try a light ash brown in a brand like garnier nutrisse, loreal superior preference or loreal natural match, that’s what i use. ash brown will combat any brassy tones that might show up when you lighten. i would try just 30 volume peroxide instead of 20, i don’t think you’ll need to add any 40. you might want to leave the color on a little longer than you usually do, like 45 minutes i would say, but check it in the mirror every so often to see if it’s lightening. it should work but if it doesn’t, try some color oops hair dye remover, then after you use that, dye your hair with a color that matches your natural color. good luck!
