Pike Fishing
There are many pike fishing rigs to help you catch a great sport fish. Pike are an exciting fish to go fishing for, however if your equipment is not set right then your efforts all may be for not.
Northern pike are one of the toothier fresh water fish. They have very sharp teeth that allow them to brake and cut some of the toughest line.
Most people that fish for northern pike rig there lines with a steel leader. Steal leaders do not allow the fishes teeth to cut or break your line. This allows you to catch more fish, while loosing less of your equipment.
When setting up for fishing northern pike the person fishing needs to take into account the time of year and the area they will be fishing. Time of year, whether you are fishing weedy or rocky areas, and bait type all need to be considered.
If you are ice fishing for northern pike you will more than likely want to rig your line so that your large minnows are hooked in the back or closer to the tail. If you are fishing in weeded areas drifting, you will likely want a minnow rigged through the mouth. This is to give the minnow a natural look as it is being pulled behind the boat.
Pike normally will take a minnow from the tail, hold it in there mouth for a while. Then they let the minnow go, and retake the minnow head first. Just knowing this makes a difference when setting up pike fishing rigs. If you are going to give the pike the time then setting the hook towards the front of the rig is your way to go. If you are going to set the hook on the first run then you will want the hook towards the back of your minnow.
