Rod/Reel Maintenance Tip?
Let me set the scene: you’ve been on the water all day, the ocean was choppy, the wind was constant. When you finally get home and you unhook the boat and put it in your garage, what do you do with your gear? You spray it down with your garden hose, right? WRONG!!* If you do that, you can actually aid in the corrosion process. What you want to do is buy furniture polish. Yeah, that’s right, furniture polish, preferably Orange Glo in a spray bottle or aerosol can. Then, spray down everything: the rod guides, the rod, the reel, and the reel seat; let that sit for about 15 minutes, then come back and wipe it down. By letting the rod sit, you’re allowing the polish to seep into the reel and break down the salt.
