What are some interesting and solvable environmental issues in the Rio Grande Valley?
I have to decide on an issue or an occurence in the environment and make a report on it, followed by an experiment. I am totally clueless as to what topic to choose. Thank you in advance.
I know what the Rio Grande Valley is, I just need a few environmental occurrences from there that I can conduct experiments on. Thank you in advance.
The Rio Grande Valley is an area located in the southernmost tip of Texas. It lies along the northern bank of the Rio Grande, which separates Mexico from the United States.
The Rio Grande Valley is not a valley, but a delta or floodplain. Early settlers from Mexico felt that the term “Valley” sounded more inviting to tourists and northern investors than did “Delta.” The Rio Grande Valley is also called “El Valle”, the Spanish translation of “the valley”, by those who live there.
The Environmental issues are as pertaining to a delta (Silting of river, pollution etc)
River delta
A delta is a landform where the mouth of a river flows into an ocean, sea, desert, estuary, lake or another river. It builds up sediment outwards into the flat area which the river’s flow encounters (as a deltaic deposit) transported by the water and set down as the currents slow. Deltaic deposits of larger, heavily-laden rivers are characterized by the main channel dividing amongst often substantial land masses into multiple streams known as distributaries. These divide and come together again to form a maze of active and inactive channels.
