Would a heavier action (stiffer) rod allow me to cast farther?
I just bought a small Abu Garcia reel and a Daiwa rod, but the rod is very light action and it seems to wobble a lot when I cast. Would a heavier action rod eliminate this problem and allow me to cast farther?
I am using a spinning reel and fishing for panfish and bass. It seems that with about 90% of my casts my lure goes higher than it should and my rod wobbles too much. I know I should release the line later in my cast, but would a medium action pole also help in this situation?
hey man, a lot of people have many different suggestions about this question. in my opinion it really all depends on the person and the rod and how it is casted and what ever other things may come into play. but like you said that you have a light action rod i would step up to a medium action. i wouldn’t go with a stiff heavy action. for one the medium action is a good all around rod that is durable enough to stand up to many good sized fish but it is light enough that you can feel the nibbles of sunfish. if you step up to a heavy action rod you are pretty much limited to the size of fish that you maybe able to feel. i would try a medium action. that is all that i use and i throw lures from flies to 6 inch crank baits. it is a good all around rod. i guess that the answer to your question though is yea you probably can throw a little further with a stiffer rod but just remember. when it comes to fly fishing the size of the fishing line and the weight of it is what cast out the flies and for spinner reels bait casters the weight of the lure it what gets it out there. if you are throwing a very small light lure no matter how stiff the rod the lure will not get too far out there. might even want to even add a little weight. good luck good fishin be safe and remember to share the experience
