Well – let me put your mind at ease. It’s MUCH less complicated that you think, and it has nothing to do with the comparison of the two.

The only reason you need:
Shimano recalled the Corsairs not that long after putting them into production, and as a result, those who wished could take the corsair, send it to shimano, and get a brand new (in the box) Corvalus as a replacement. If you had the silver model (the first one) there was no charge – only shipping. If you had had the gold (“A”) model (Corsair xxxA) then the charge was $20 per reel. The reason for the cost difference was the pricing of the original reel related to the cost of the Corvalus you got as a replacement.
Now, do you really want the only reel that Shimano has ever recalled?
I wouldn’t.
