What is the best way to fly with my cats to another state?
I may be moving to the other side of the country next year.
How do I fly with my 2 cats?
I heard that some flights let you carry them on?!?!
How does this work and tell me how I should go about doing this.
What Kind of equipment/carrier should I get?
Do I put a litter box in the carrier?

For cats, you usually have 2 options – either carry them on (via a soft bag that has holes…you can get in a pet store) or you can put them in “special baggage” (in a plastic carrier case w/ holes…also, you can get in a pet store).
Virtually all airlines allow this, but you can call ahead to make sure. I have never had a problem. Depending on the airline, the cost will differ. It usually cost $10-25 more to “check them in as special baggage”…more abt that in a second. I haven’t brought my cat on the plane for a while, but as I recall, I paid $50-$75 each flight.
Personally, I preferred having my cat w/ me. Made me feel better & was a bit more fun. But, doesn’t work well if the person next to you is allergic to cats.
If you do “check” them, don’t worry…they do take good care of them. They are not placed w/ the regular baggage & they actually have pet watchers (hence the extra fee) and there is a special place to pick them up. They do not feed them or anything like that and they ask you the last time they’ve been fed. I believe they do this in case there are MAJOR delays and they need to take care of them/give them food.
No, you should not bring kitty litter or anything like that. It would be a complete mess, and it won’t be needed. The cats will hold it in, plus it will be a complete mess. I’ve never had a problem w/ my cat…even when he’s been in my carrier bag for over 10-12 hrs (including limo rides, etc).
BTW, I have left some food for my cat in the bag…and, he never ate it. Also, there are mixed opinions from vets as to whether you should give them tranquilizers. I do not claim to be an expert, but I never gave my cat a tranquilizer, and he survived 4 round trips.
