Sinking Fly
What is a good fly line for bass and bluegill?
I have asked questions similar to this and I am not getting a straight answer. I want a floating and slow sinking line that can be used for bass and bluegill. I AM using a 5 wt. rod, I will not change as I have already ORDERED it and a X4 leader. I just need a 5 wt. floating and a 5 wt. slow sinking line that can be used for small bass and bluegill.
since it is commonly done to go either one line weight over or under, l would get a floating weight forward 6 wt line for the larger bulky bugs you will want to be using for the bass.
l would also stay with the weight forward on the SS line. and maybe a 6wt also. but 5 should be fine for the ‘gills using underwater creepers of sorts. bead heads, spiders and other nymphs.
cortland, scientific anglers, both are good. l like the figures on a “shark skin” line l have read about but not tried yet.
there are probably more good lines than bad ones. even mid-range lines nowadays are better than some of the top shelf lines some of us grew up with.
