What are some of the products that drag queens use?
Specifically foundation and concealer, the stuff used to create a smooth base. And what is that stuff they put on to cover their eyebrows?? (I want to be able to change the shape of my eyebrows whenever I want).
…I’m not a drag queen, I’m actually a girl but I’m really interested in dramatic makeup. I’ve been watching Rupaul’s Drag Race and everyone’s skin looks amazing. I seem them putting on a lot of layers of different things but I don’t know what they are . . .? (I’ve heard the Mac primer suggested but what else please?)
Yeh no that’s the kind of answer I don’t want. I don’t want to here “they use what everyone else uses but more,” that’s not helpful, and that’s not true. There are specific products that could be recommended, even if they’re not specifically “drag queen” products. For instance the makeup specifically made to cover your eyebrows.
As the previous user stated, MAC products work best. Sometimes a liquid concealer is used to cover the eyebrows (using a cosmetic sponge), and it is then buffed with a powder foundation (usually using a kabuki brush). They then use a combination of eyebrow pencil and eyeshadow to fill in new brows (for a natural look).
They also do what is called “contouring” to soften up their features. They usually use a foundation that is slightly lighter than their own skin tone. Then, using a bronzer or a neutral blush (or even a darker foundation), they’ll contour their noses, cheeks, temples, chin. A light blush is then added for more dimension. Next step is applying the actual blush.
Please note, this technique is used for PERFORMANCES, they have to stand out. They are more subdued when they apply “everyday make-up” (if they live as women)
Truthfully, I found the best make-up application is done when the right brushes and sponges are used. MAC brushes will set you back a good deal, but they’re worth it. Drugstore brushes aren’t bad either, and you can even use watercolor brushes.
If you want everyday make-up, go with MAC’s eyeshadow. If you want dramatic and VERY bold, then use MAC paint pots and liquid liner.
Now remember…. drag queen make-up usually just looks best on drag queens, or generic MySpace girls (but on those girls, it still doesn’t look good). Even some drag queens hate the “drag” make-up. You’d look silly at the mall or in school with make-up applied like a queen.
