Spinner Lure
how deep on spinner baits?
now i dont know if i am doin something wrong, or just that my local lake sucks. but i keep losing my spinner baits and similar lures (beetle-jigs) on logs and other underwater cover…
so the question is, how deep am i supposed to be keeping my spinnerbaits and jigs so that they will still attract and bring in bites?
because i saw on a couple videos that you want to keep the lure near, if not inside weeds and other grassy cover, which in most of my cases is pretty deep.
so any tricks/tips that you guys got to keep me from losing all these lures….
btw… thank god for walmart`s clearance section for all their 98 cent lures…
also, im using a 6lb line if that matters at all why i cant seem to keep my spinners
While I know that spinner baits will work at any depth range the fish are holding at, it has been my experience that my best success with spinner baits has been working them from very shallow where the spinners will create a small wake, to no more then 3 foot deep. My advice to you in order to stop losing your lures and start catching more fish is to go with texas rigged plastics when fishing deeper waters . And while lighter line will generally create more strikes, when I fish spinner baits I like to use 12 lb line and even heavier sometimes. Changing to a heavier line will give you a little more leeway to get your lure back after hanging up. But here is what you will soon learn- when fishing water with a lot of structure sure as underwater logs and snags you need to learn to keep your lure just above the obstacles when fishing a spinner bait.You will do this when you have more experience. It is a learning process that is almost a sense you will develop over time as to the proper depth to fish your lure.It’s hard to explain but every one goes through the same stage you are in right now.It will get better as you gain the experience as you fish more and more.Just don’t give up.
