Stren Fishing
What type of fishing line do you recommend?
I just picked up a Pflueger President 6735XTX and I’m wondering what type of line I should throw on this thing? Brands? Mono/braid/flouro? I’ve always used Stren 6 or 8 lb LoVis green mono with great success. However, it’s been twisting on me as of late, but that might have been an issue with my reel, correct?
I fish for Largemouth. Preferably looking for 6lb test, as the largest fish I can catch here are 3-4lbs…

Monofilament is hands down the best all around fishing line available as far as I’m concerned. I’ve caught everything from Bass, Bluegill, Crappie, Catfish, and even Walleye on it with ease. There’s only two scenarios when I’ll switch to a different line.
1. When finesse fishing, especially Drop Shotting plastics. In this situation, you want a very low visible line. Fluorocarbon is a great pick when it comes to low visibility.
2. The dreaded braided line. I don’t like this line at all, but sometimes it is a good choice. This does come in handy when fishing very heavy cover constantly, and when fishing for “teethy” fish or even Catfish at times. Usually I will go to a heavier mono line, like the Berkley Big Game stuff, but sometimes it’s not quite enough. Unless your an avid big fish fisherman, I don’t recommend braid at all.
I would stick to what you mentioned. At the most, use 8 pound mono on that reel. Stren does occasionally twist on me as well, although it has been my fault many times. Line will twist on you if it’s old, been on your reel too long, or if it’s been exposed to the sun for long lengths of time. Try to avoid all of those things. I also like Suffix and Trilene lines pretty well.
