Are there other types of boring other than jig boring?
I’m doing a little research in machining operations. I’m confused by some terminology and am hoping someone can set me straight.
I’ve come across the terms boring and jig boring. My understanding is they’re the same thing, a single cutter on a very rigid tool holder that makes holes slightly bigger, but very accurately. It’s usually preceded by drilling. Are boring and jig boring the same? Are there boring other than jig boring? Inquiring minds want to know.

Boring is the process of enlarging a hole that has already been drilled (or cast), by means of a single-point cutting tool (or of a boring head containing several such tools). Boring is used to achieve greater accuracy of the diameter of a hole, and can be used to cut a tapered hole.
Jig boring is used to accurately enlarge existing holes and make their diameters highly accurate. Jig boring is used for holes that need to have diameter and total runout controlled to a high degree
The jig borer was invented to expedite the making of drill jigs, but it helped to eliminate the need for drill jigs entirely by making quick precision directly available for the parts that the jigs would have been created for. It is basically a milling machine.
