If you know anything about ‘trout fishing’ you undoubtedly know (or have heard) how effective artificial flies are as bait for trout. Heck, there have been movies made about fly fishing and there are many television shows dedicated to the style of fishing known as ‘fly fishing’. The point of fly fishing is to use artificial flies as bait, and in this article I will outline a couple of trout fishing basics for using flies as bait for trout. Obviously trout aren’t the only species of fish that can be caught while using artificial flies, and you easily modify these trout fishing basics for use while fishing for other species of game fish if you so choose.
Anyone who is new the act of trout fishing needs to know some simple trout fishing basics and using flies as bait is a basic that every trout fisherman should have in there repertoire. The interesting thing about using this type of bait is that you don’t have to be a fly fisherman to use flies as bait when fishing. Traditional spin fishermen can use flies as bait by employing a simple piece of fishing tackle called a casting bubble. I’ll get to the use of casting bubbles in a moment but first I want to discuss the most popular way to use artificial flies as bait for trout, traditional fly fishing.
Artificial flies are extremely lightweight and fly fishing is an excellent way to cast and fish these lightweight trout baits effectively. Fly fishing involves the use of a fly rod and reel that is spooled with specialized fly fishing line. All of these components work together to give you the ability to cast lightweight flies effectively, however this doesn’t happen immediately. In order to fly fish in the traditional manner you will need to practice in order to become a proficient fly fisherman. Fly fishing is the best way to use artificial flies as bait for trout and one of the trout fishing basics that many anglers choose to learn.
For spin fishermen who use traditional spinning tackle and gear to fish for trout, artificial flies can be fished effectively by employing something called a casting bubble. Casting bubbles (or fly fishing bubbles as they are sometimes called) enable lightweight artificial flies to be fished effectively while using traditional spin fishing gear. The bottom line is that when it comes to trout fishing basics (for the traditional spin fishermen) casting bubbles should be added to your trout fishing arsenal.
