Have you ever found yourself asking the question, “How do I catch more bass”? This is a common question among bass anglers and in this article I’m going to provide you with some tips for catching more and bigger bass. Most of these tips can be implemented almost immediately and will help be a much more successful.
Almost anyone can go out and catch some these fish, but consistently catching numbers and larger bass is another animal altogether. This article will provide you with some great tips that will certainly help you answer the question of how do I catch more bass.
The first thing we want understand if we want to catch more bass are the fish themselves. These fish are largely predatory and like to ambush their prey. This means that they look for cover to hide behind so they can ambush their prey. This means that as anglers, we want to look for and fish near cover if we want to optimize our fishing time.
Below I will list a few baits that will help any bass fisherman catch more & bigger bass. Using any or all of these lures will help you answer the question, how do I catch more bass. When using any of these bass baits remember to make sure that your hands are free of any unnatural odors. Any scents that are on your hands will transfer to your bait. Bass have a very sensitive sense of smell and if they detect any unnatural scents, they are less apt to bite.
- Live Bait – Whether you’re fishing for large mouth bass is a lake or smallmouth bass in the flowing waters of a river, live bait is one of the best ways to catch more & bigger bass. Large shiners or shad are a great way to catch more bass. Live crayfish are also a great bait, but they are much harder to come by than shiners or shad in most areas. Make sure that you handle your shiners or shad properly. These bait fish need lots of oxygen and any water temperature changes in their surroundings should be minimal. They key, especially for larger bass, is that your bait is as “lively” as possible.
- Realistic Lures – If you don’t like using live bait, realistic fishing lures can be effective also. One of the keys to catching more and bigger bass is that you’re offering looks as realistic as possible. The KickTail Minnow is a great lure choice for bass. This bait looks as much like a live shad as any lure that I’ve ever seen. Some other realistic lure choices would be a jointed Rapala or the Storm ‘wildeye’ swim bait
- Plastic Worms – Plastic worms are probably the best known way to catch bass, and anyone who wants to know how to catch bass needs to study some plastic worm techniques. The Texas rig is probably the easiest plastic worm rigging method, and also quite effective. The swimming rig is another plastic worm rigging method that works quite well around boat docks or weed beds. Plastic worms are an excellent way to catch more bass.
The bottom line when it comes to catching more of these fish is to spend as much time on the water as possible. No bait or lure will impact your bass catching ability like spending time on the water practicing your craft. Although your better half might hate to hear it, the more time that you can spend bass fishing, the better.
