You wont get into line trouble like you would with a bait casting reel. Bait casting reels are open face and you have to keep thumbing the spool when you cast. Which gives you better placement of the lure. But, backlash is common even among experts. Baitcasting reels is great for deep sea fishing because you can get a beefy rod and reel and just let out line and they are built to catch big critters.
The spincast reels are Zebco Omega, diawa, Abu-Garcia Abumatic, Pfueger Cetina, and an old favorite, Johnson Century. At most online sites they have rod and reel combinations that you can get for a cheap price. You cant go wrong if you purchase any of the ones i have named here. After you get the rod and reel you prefer, practice casting with a lead weight tied on your line. Practice until your happy with your casting ability. Next, go to a small lake or pond and just cast a lure out a short distance. Watch it on retrieve, does it look like it belongs there?Like a small fish or bug?Using different speeds try to see how many ways it will look natural, like a swimming fish. This is the number one reason an inexperienced fisherman or woman cant catch fish. A lure is meant to be fished a certain way. Some slow, some medium. You get the hang of this and you will be the one that everyone will want to go fishing with.
Spinner bait:
Lures to use depend on the season and time of day. In spring. . .
Up in the shallows, around weed beds try a spinner bait, 3/8 oz. Thunder spin. This lure rattles draws fish from a great distance. White or chartreuse colors(check with your bait store on your favorite lake to make sure of the colors). Also use double blades on this lure, i think it comes with them.
Plastic Lizards:
If the largemouth bass arent active because of a cold front, try aplastic lizard up in the shallows, around weed beds. This lure should help you catch fish even when fishing conditions arent so hot.
Crank Baits:
If the largemouth bass are roaming around and havent built a nest yet, try a red rat-l-trap. Its easy to use and the rattle will get the bass coming in for a lunch. Just remember that most of the fish you catch in shallow water will be small. Cast out deeper to catch the larger females.
Jigs:
For the deeper water try a 3/8 oz. pumpkinseed color Thunder Jig. The rattles will bring them in to your lure. You should do really well with all the information you have and i wish you good fishing.
